The Music Building: Commodity+Firmness+Delight

Firmness: The School of Music Building, a three story 130,000 feet facility is a very dominant structure on the UNC Greensboro Campus. At the front of the building there is a circular structure that the top withholds an organ chamber inside. The circular structure helps represent the unity of the Music Education that goes on within this building. Being made of stone allows to show the strength and firmness of the building and play a more influential role into its location and purpose.

Delight: The music building gives of this peaceful essence which relates to the sound and flow of the music that is created in the building. Another delight that is incorporated into the structure of the building is if you look down at the tiles is seems as if the building is creating waves which is also a mimic of the sound of the music flowing from the instruments.

Commodity: This building I feel is an important asset to this campus in many ways. It allows for a peaceful environment for music students to learn. But not only that it also allows for people to come in and practice their own music on their own time in a practice room. Its a setting where people can relax and just enjoy the essence of music and let it move them in the way they want it to.

Axis: This building is sitting on the major axis that this campus is built on. With it being directly across from the School of Education I feel it is a reflection of the education that goes on inside of this building. With the dome on the building standing so tall helps it stand out and gives it an important significance and helps us understand that it is one of the main factors on this campus.

  1. You had nice descriptions but I think you could have written more to help support your thoughts on each.
