Extra Credit Assignment: Eames Legacy

When looking up the definition of “design” in the dictionary the key words that come up are purpose, create and effect. We are here at UNCG in the Interior Architecture program to help learn the background structure of how exactly to portray all three of those elements when we go out into the business world. But the questions we were asked today helped us see an example of medias way of showing interior design and the pros and cons of the differences.
The first question that we were asked was if education played a major role in design. Where the answer I think could be yes and no depending on the person. Yes, education will benefit you and stabilize your talents in the field. But no, a person could just be blessed with the eye and have the creativity to display their designs without having educational training.
There were two questions about experiences and if they are important in the field. I think if you have the eye and the ability to illustrate that throughout their not that important. But also at the same time they could give your broader ideas into your projects.
Then there was a question on what do you think about taking a holistic approach to design. I personally feel that taking a holistic approach makes the structure and design more sustainable over time. If you only think about the surface its more than likely to be effected in a negative way as time goes on and the stuff below the surface begins to take effect.
The last question that we were asked was what is the role of the media in interior design. In shows like Design Star I think it takes something that would normally take us hours of thought and hard work and makes it seem quick and easy. Also though media can give a positive effect and show many different ideas and perspectives from different people and advertise what could be possible.
