Personal Reflection

Over the semester I feel as if I learned a lot about drawing. Coming into this program I felt I was a little behind from the rest of the class. I have never had any drawing lessons or drafting lessons or anything to that sort. At first I really dreaded drawing because I just felt everything I drew looked so bad but as the semester progressed I started to feel more confident and I think they actually look pretty descent. Something else that I liked about drawing in our observational sketchbooks is we had a general skill we had to focus on at one time but overall we had free range onto what we wanted to draw.

Most Successful Drawings

I chose this drawing as one of my most successful because I feel that I really captured the look of my Grandpa. Also another reason why I chose it is because it really means a lot to me. My grandpa died a year ago from cancer so drawing this picture was truly meaningful.

I chose this drawing as one of my most successful for one because it looks just like the Georgia bulldog. Also because when i drew this it was over Thanksgiving break when I was back in Florida sitting in my room with my brother when he asked me if I could draw him it. So I sat there and drew this picture in fifteen minutes.

Scale Figures

Here are a few of my scale figures I've drawn. Scale Figures are really hard for me to perfect.

Self Portraits

2 from others 3 from me (Observational Sketch Book)

By: Lindsey Grace
Lindsey in her sketches when putting shadows used a lot of little lines instead of just "coloring" and "smoothing" sort of like me and Matt. But something me and her seemed to do sort of the same is it seems like we both sort of do a contour drawing first then fill in the other derails.

By: Matt Weikert

In Matts drawings he seems to use a lot of dark shading in his sketches to help you really see the object that he is drawing. In my sketches my shading is all kind of blinded where in his shading it is very defined on where each shade started and stopped.

Leo Villareal

"Leo Villareal is a pioneer in the use of LEDs and computer-driven imagery and known both for his light sculptures and architectural, site-specific works"

"My work is focused on stripping systems down to their essence to better understand the underlying structures and rules that govern how they work"

What is light?
"something that makes things visible or affords illumination"-

What quality of light or their work is most special for the artist or most intriguing for you?
The most intriguing part of Leo's art work is how the light bursts through holes. My luminaire for class is based off of light bursting through many different holes so it is cool to see an artist who has similar idea. Another thing that is really nice about a lot of his art work is it is set up to make it have a look of motion to it.

Stick Drawing in Observational Notebook

Regular Contour and Shaded Drawing

Most Successful Leaf Drawings in Observational Notebook

These are a few of my most successful Drawings of my leafs. I didn't know what a gesture drawing was at first until I looked it up but i think I captured the movement of my leaf very well. Then the next picture was a zoomed in picture into a section of my leaf. After that is just a general picture of what my leaf looked like.

Where do you find inspiration?

I  find inspiration within different things around me. The main things I find inspiration is within just normal human activities or even just beautiful scenery.
For example today i was outside walking and I saw leaves spinning around like a tornado and I just find natural activities with nature that happen so beautiful.
